Pop icon Shakira is due to receive the highly acclaimed Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, alongside her first live performance on the VMA stage in 17 years. The renowned Colombian artist has previously collected a total of four VMAs, with her initial win in the International Viewer’s Choice category (Latin America North) dating all the way back to 2000.
This time around, she has been selected as a nominee for four different accolades. These include the prestigious artist of the year, the best collaboration gong (for “XQG” with Karol G), as well as two nominations in the best Latin category – one for her solo track “Acróstico” and the other for her joint effort with Karol G.
According to Bruce Gillmer, who is the chief content officer of music at Paramount+ and also serves as the president of music, music talent, programming and events at Paramount, Shakira is an exceptional talent who has been inspiring and influencing people all around the world with her unique musical abilities. She is not only a trailblazer for women but also one of the first artists to have led the globalization of Latin music. Her contribution to the music industry has made a tremendous impact and will continue to do so in the coming years as she keeps creating and entertaining at the highest level.
